Sunday brunch on the patio at the AIT a wonderful way to spend a late SUMMER Sunday . Mimosas to start, the best chiliquiles ever. A must stop for a Saturday or Sunday. James, my waiter was friendly efficient and totally great. Too many wonderful voices to list. My table mate had the Bourbon street eggs benefit. Eggplant was perfect. An Ann Arbor tradition.

Shocked yesterday (Thu 06/18/2015) by lack of service -- not only poor but nonexistent. Walked out. We were seated on the outdoor patio. Server left menus & went inside. Weather started to rain, though we were under an umbrella. Server did not return. We hailed another server who said, "Maybe he doesn't want to brave the elements." She went inside to find the 1st server. Upon return, she said that server #1 was "distracted." He never returned, nor did any other server take our order. So we left. The restaurant was not busy at the time.

Don't come here hungry, or if you're short on time. I've been here a couple of times, and would average this place to 3.5 or 4 stars. My friends and I have joked that we get amnesia each time we come, as the food is so good, we forget how long of a wait it can be. As others have noted, it can take over an hour to get seated. On nice weather days, if you want the patio, you just have to wait in line the entire time. For indoor seating, you can put your name down, and go explore the bookshop next door, and they call over when your table is ready. Unfortunately, the place also seems understaffed, where it seemed there was only one server covering the entire length of the outdoor patio. Needless to say, it would awhile for us to get anything, e.g., by the time our friend got her sourcream she asked for, she was already done wtih the meal. However, you can't blame the server, he was doing his best. The food and drinks are delicious though. They have a hearty bloody mary, that has bacon and the works. They also have a list of freshly squeezed juices, as well as a small collection of Teahaus teas. Anything with chorizo is a winner here. I also am a fan of the corned beef hash.

The poor service has been noted in other reviews so I won't belabor the point. Just be aware that having brunch here is a two hour affair with zero sense of urgency from the staff. If you have an entire afternoon with nothing to do I imagine the restaurant is quite enjoyable. There is a nice, breezy patio to sit and contemplate the food you ordered an hour ago. As for the food, it is was pretty average. I had an overdone omelette, filled with typical omelette additions, covered in a red sauce. The highlight was the papaya mimosa, actually delightful. I would have ordered another had the waiter ever come back. In the end, like him, I won't be back.

We really like the atmosphere of Aut Bar, especially the outdoor seating. It is away from the hustle of downtown main street so you can actually enjoy a nice conversation while having your meal. The food was okay- we love mexican, but this was on the heavier side, especially for breakfast. Service was good, especially given how busy they were. Our waiter came multiple times to fill our waters. However.... Be prepared to wait at least an hour during weekend brunch. This is just to be seated. You could put your name in, walk around kerrytown and come back. Just keep track of time. From there, add another hour after you order for the food to come out. My advice is that you don't go when you are super hungry or in a rush! Perhaps week days are different.

This is definitely my staple Ann Arbor brunch spot. They have pretty good Mexican breakfasts, which was a most exciting discovery. It is also super affordable, has delicious bloody marys and mimosas and takes reservations! It's rare to find a place that does all of that. I have tried the breakfast burritos and the huevos rancheros now and would recommend both of them. The breakfast burritos can be create your own so you can pick three toppings. I love customizing my order so this is particularly compelling to me. The waiters are also extremely patient and friendly! I have not experienced this place at night yet, but based on some of the other reviews, it seems like a place to check out!

Excellent place to visit, if I lived here I would be here often! Guess I will just have to save it for special visits instead.

This place is only good because they cater to the LGBT community & friends. They're solid Democrats with a very liberal atmosphere. The food itself is not so great. They do a Mexican-style brunch that has decent options if you're into that, but almost everything that I've eaten there is subpar. The cocktails are weak, the tempeh burger has no flavor, and they don't even have great coffee. The bathrooms are super icky, which is a pet peeve. Go with a group because it's a fun, upbeat, and colorful hangout spot in Kerrytown. Just don't go expecting Manhattan-quality cocktails or a particularly pleasing meal.

I went to the Aut Bar for the first time for Father's Day Brunch. I was glad that I had made a reservation for inside seating as it was a bit too warm for sitting outside. I had the Machacados and enjoyed it very much. Due to the intimate size, reservations are definitely a good idea.

AWESOME brunch and food in general here. Everything I've ever ordered has been delicious. Of course Matt is my favorite bartender. He is attentive to everyone even when it's extremely busy and always makes you want to come back. Not to mention he is a wonderful mixologist. Love Saturday nights here with the live DJ and the dancing. Stepped foot in here 3 years ago and they keep me coming back regularly! It's a great place to feel accepted no matter who you are. Love the Aut bar. :)))

This is one of those reviews I'm afraid to write, because I want to keep this spot to myself! Aut Bar is adorable. I love the patio with all the flags hanging down. The interior is cozy but comfortable, filled with interesting pieces of art. The drink menu has lots of options - various bloody marys, mimosas, and specialty drinks. The food menu has a latin flare but plenty of variety there too. And the specials truly ARE special. I came with a large group and there were NO disappointments on the table. My build-your-own omelette was large and yummy, with plenty of veggies and tasty, spicy breakfast potatoes on the side. My fiance liked the special menu so much that he ordered two: blueberry cobbler french toast (an amazing combination of sweet, creamy, tangy and crunchy textures - devoured in five minutes flat when the entire table swarmed it) and the spinach & sweet potato scramble. My friends also raved about the pancakes, the fried green tomatoes, and the chili-topped omelette. The overall meal was a bit slow, but we were in good company (and a large group - 16) and no one seemed to mind. Plus our server was attentive the entire time and having his attention helped keep us at ease. (So did the free-flowing drinks, ha.) Consensus: None of us can wait to go back. I wish I had discovered this spot sooner! I already have my next trip planned.

I wasn't sure if it was a bar at all as it just looks like a restaurant and no one seems to feel the need to greet you as you enter. Typical bad management that results from attitudes of "we have the prime location and so we don't have to care". Other than the lady bartender who was personable but left shortly after our arrival the staff is obviously too comfortable with their routine and not ambitious. I have never seen anyone order an appetizer of jalapeño poppers and get all five of them on a bed of broken up tortilla chips. When I asked of they had an order of poppers without tortilla chips I was told no and the reason is they want to promote the restaurant instead and they arena really sure yet if they want to be a restaurant or a bar. Really?

Please keep in mind that I am writing this review based on a brunch I went to with 15 other people and they seemed to be severely understaffed.... I ordered the burbon eggs with the breaded eggplant. Instead, my order came with a sausage patty. I also received my order significantly later than the people at my table. My dish was cold to the core of my poached egg. The hollandaise sauce was no longer warm and gooey; it turned into a matte textured sauce. The potatoes it came on were also cold. I had to add a lot of ketchup to my potatoes. My fiancé got the scallop and bacon frittata. There was no bacon taste but the scallops were good and big. His dish was also cold and they forgot to bring out the sweet potato side. We didn't realize it until the end, about an hour and 45 mins after we all had ordered our food, when our friend finally received the same dish with his sweet potato side. Again they were very understaffed so that is probably the biggest factor in why we received such terrible service. If my dish had been freshly cooked and hot when I ate it, I'm sure it would have been a lot better. So for all those who have read this far.... You may still want to give them a chance with a smaller group. But I will never be back to give them another chance.

Sunday Brunch. Good drinks, so-so food, terrible service. No surprise here based on the other reviews. Mimosas were really good, however with only one bartender for the entire brunch crowd drinks take forever, even a simple glass of wine. My Sonora omelette was pretty good. The bacon was some of the worst I've ever had and they even managed to screw up toast. Maybe with the money they save from chronically understaffing they could put a little more into the food? I doubt I will come back here for some time, especially not for brunch.

I'm sorry, but you do not come here to eat. The food, particularly the "Mexican" food, is not very good; it is the type of food that you inhale without tasting circa 3am when it is the perfect dish to absorb the evening's revelries. You come here to drink, and that you should! The bartenders are great, and the atmosphere is cool and relaxed. Come, enjoy, and drink!

I've lived in Ann Arbor my whole life and never ventured into Kerrytown to try Aut Bar! I came here on a Sunday for brunch after a 5K run and loved it. The patio is so, so adorable and cozy and Braun Court is right across the street from the Kerrytown Farmer's market. I got to brunch a little late but our waitress was gracious and brought me water and a menu to let me order after the rest of the table. I settled on the huevos chorizo which was delicious. I like the Southwest theme of the dishes. The portions are decent but not overwhelming, and the best part is the price! I only paid $8 for my meal, which I basically unheard of for brunch in downtown A2. I'll definitely be back to Aut Bar!

One star is for the service, not the food. Food is fine, though not amazing. My girlfriend and I went there for brunch at around 10:20 and got seated at noon. Some people after us got the table earlier because of some "made up" reasons (they have one more person so they get larger tables... however ALL the tables are the same size.). Then it took another more than half an hour to order and wait for the dishes. Water was never refilled until we received the check. It totally messed up our plans for the rest of the day and ruined the weekend (well, at least half of the weekend). If you have to go there, do miss the mimosas. They are pretty good.

I would have given this 5 stars, but the service was a bit slow and inattentive. Went here with a large party for a friend's birthday party and it was so worth it! Loved sitting outside with the twinkle lights on a long picnic bench. I ordered a garden salad and a cup of the curry sweet potato soup. I mean, the salad was super fresh tasting. I could tell the cucumbers were of the home grown nearby farm variety, which was a yummy gem. THE SOUP. Oh my goodness. So much curry flavor, with that the sweetness only a sweet potato can give. I think I want to order vats of it, dump it over rice, and call it a day. Prices were fair. I don't drink, but they had a lot of fun sounding drinks on the menu. Parking structures are nearby. Wish service was better. Our long table soon became cluttered, and drink orders forgotten. Perhaps it is better for smaller parties. So excited to try this for brunch sometime!

Great place. Breakfest is already good, Aut Bar takes it to another level. It will remind you of a better time in your life. The music takes you back. Order a drink with your meal. The waitress will suggest a good drink if you don't know what will be good. Enjoy the food

The food is great but... This is my opinion, my experience...I feel maybe because I'm not gay I don't get the best service (my friend said I'm just intimidating) Three times so far I've experienced this. I do go though because I do like one of the servers and one bartender and again, the food!

  • Katie B.

Brunch food was excellent and has a heavy Mexican influence. The food menu was more interesting than just scrambled eggs. The Huevos con Papas was a good mix of everything I want for brunch. However, the servers were over-whelmed. And left a lot of people waiting in line without acknowledging their existence. Also, I asked for a drink multiple times and never recieved it. I will defiantly do brunch here again.

I can't imagine why this place has so many stars. It's nice that it's the only specifically gay bar in town... But they really are resting on their laurels. The service is unfailingly bad every time I come - not necessarily because the servers are bad but perhaps because they are chronically understaffed. As I'm writing this we have been sitting here for 2.5 hours and have only been able to order and receive 2 drinks in that time. I appreciate that it's a busy night but...at least bring in another bartender or something when you know it's going to get like this. They're also overpriced for what you get - certainly with regard to drinks. In summary, it is pretty much only worth it to come here when it is totally empty and you are dealing with the bartenders directly. I continue to hold out hope that one day some competition will open up that will kick this place into gear. In the meantime, I'll come here when I must because it's where my community comes and I'll just try to have a drink beforehand. I also had a terrible brunch experience here that I'll have to write about another time. They do get two stars because the ambience on the patio is really nice tonight.

I had an incredible brunch at Aut Bar! Not only was the food delicious, but the service was also excellent. I had a breakfast burrito and it was very tasty. To expedite the wait on the weekends, I'd recommend calling ahead to make reservations. I'm looking forward to going back when the weather gets warmer so I can enjoy yet another wonderful brunch on their patio!

I've heard great things about this place for years and I finally tried it. I have to say it wasn't that great after all. Not bad, just fine. I got a spinach omelette and it wasn't very flavorful. It tasted like I made it. The cubed sweet potatoes were tiny and sweet, so small that you mostly tasted the skin. The muffin was clearly an afterthought and was barely even chewable. Tough and dry like Irish peasant food. The service was fine. The mimosas were really good. I recommend those for sure, but you could make everything else yourself and have it turn out much better. Maybe I just got the wrong food because everyone else seems to rave about it.

Went here for the first time today for brunch. Their brunch is reasonably priced but I opted for the daily special, a blackberry french toast thing (topped with blackberry cobbler, YUM!) for about $11.50. I also got a glass of raspberry champagne, for $4.50 - decent cocktail prices too for brunch. The place is a bit small, we waited about 10 minutes for a table for 3 for brunch, although my friend said that usually you would wait longer. I had to choose a different seat at the table because one side was kind of wedged in to the wall and was a little uncomfortable. Service was good, for the most part, and food was DELICIOUS. I will definitely be coming back here again for brunch sometime.

My absolute favorite Sunday brunch spot in Ann Arbor. In addition to their regular breakfast fair, they offer two to three specials each week that never disappoint. The staff is very friendly and give excellent service.

First time. So lovely, clean, and polite. Waiter respectfully listened to my absurd desire for rare-rare burger & played along with St Paddys celebrations. Best service, quality in food, and open/lite atmosphere of A2. The place where you bring your cool-af uncle or promising first date.

Brunch is fantastic. The food and service were phenomenal. We had a party of 7 and made reservations. Table was set and ready when we got there. Server explained he menu for the newbies in our group. All of their food is local- bread, meat, and produce. Many people in our group ordered juevos rancheros and enjoyed it. My husband had an omelette and I had bourbon street eggs, which is a version of eggs Benedict. It was beyond amazing, Highly recommend this place for brunch! Wonderful food and atmosphere!

First I'll say that I came here the night that Aut Bar opened. Was it 1995? 1996? Its presence here totally revitalized Braun Court and gave queer people in Ann Arbor a place to hang out that wasn't filthy and ancient and littered with filthy, ancient trolls. Speaking of filthy, ancient trolls, that's me these days. Nearly 20 years have passed since I lived in Ann Arbor, but I still stop by Aut Bar nearly every time I'm in town. The place hasn't changed much at all. It still feels clean, new and well maintained for its age. Like what I aspire to be :) Anyway, I came here for brunch last weekend with friends. The main reason I wanted to try it for brunch is that my 78-year-old mother has been asking about it. Apparently all her lady friends have been coming for brunch, and she wanted my opinion. I find it weird that octogenarian straight people like this place. Can they possibly imagine what I did in the bathroom here on my 25th birthday? Anyway, I digress. What was I saying? Aut Bar is gay owned and very straight-friendly. It's a place where straight people go for brunch on summer weekends to enjoy the breezy courtyard and better-than-average food. It's a center of community for gay people in the region. And it's not a bad place to get a drink on a Saturday night. But I just came here for brunch this week. Chilaquiles were good. Gazpacho Bloody Mary was good. Service was friendly and attentive. Enough said.

Aut Bar is the best bar in Ann Arbor, and the prices are so low that no one even knows. The food is mostly made completely from scratch, and the specials vary enough that I am always excited about eating there. Their happy hour deals are ridiculous-- Lena the bartender makes craft cocktails just as good as you could get at any other fancy bar in Ann Arbor, for $3-5 dollars each. Try the basil-lime gimlet or ask Lena about the pomegranate-tequila magic she makes that is so good I forgot the name even though I was drinking at 6 PM. All ingredients are fresh and the drinks are completely customizable, made with precision and care. I love this bar, there is a free nacho bar on Fridays (yes, FREE NACHO BAR), trivia nights, and happy hour for food and drinks goes until 7 PM on weeknights. Staff is open-minded, friendly, and attentive. Thank you Aut Bar!! I love you!!

Some of the worst service I have ever experienced. The waitress made our group feel like we where complete idiots and never came back to the table. We finally just got up and left. For being such a gay friendly bar, they aren't very friendly. Food wasn't that great either. Try to avoid this place.

Love the LGBT friendly atmosphere. Nice patio. Good food. Delicious corned beef hash. They had some sort of sweet potato hash that was delicious. Very affordable. Did not like their terribly slow service. Everything took for-ev-errrr. I think our table of four was there for almost 2 hours due to slow service. I agree with others that the service needs work.

The drinks are really good and cheap during happy hour. The appetizers are okay. Not bad but nothing too great. The place is great to just hang out with friends. Really relaxed

We tried this place last year in Dec 2013. I would say a pretty different place for breakfast. Don't remember the name of the fish but it came with rice and beans and some eggs and potatoes. It was good. But my husband'swasnt. He ordered scrambled eggs with toast and asked the server to add a few things instead of meat. But the server without telling us that it's gonna cost EXTRA, just surprised us when we asked for the check. Not only did my husband NOT LIKE his meal but the surprise was at the time of leaving. And we had to WALK up to the server to ask him that, he didn't even tell it to us when we were handed over the check. The server was unapologetic and I think this left a sour taste in our mouths. I don't think we will go back but hey I've heard good things about it from other people!! So just don't take my word for it. Maybe this restaurant wasn't meant for us.

  • Charles P.

Aut Bar was good, but rather plain. Maybe that is my fault for ordering a simple burger, however. I just wanted to try it because the meat is from Knight's. However, their outdoor seating is the best in Ann Arbor. The atmosphere is perfect and it is nestled in Braun Court away from the street so you don't get the noise or the sense of exhaust fumes on your food. The waiter was very nice and punctual as well. I originally marked it as a four star, but honestly it is really more deserving of a three.

  • Roger H.

its a bar but thats about it, they serve food and its basic at best , having been several times over the years I try to like this place but it comes down to staff and service, both they need help with keith and his partner that own the place dont really care they have a monopoly there are no other gay bars in ann arbor the necto dosent count as they only have certain gay nights and that place totally sucks as well, its a charming location but poorly run and a sad case for a gay bar. its a basic gay womens bar now wasnt always.

  • Justice S.

Food is wonderful. Drinks are good. Wait staff is EXCELLENT. However the reason they are OK is because they do NOTHING to accommodate those that are waiting an hour plus to eat. They do not communicate with those waiting, therefore, by the time you sit down to eat you are so hungry and irritated its not much fun. No apologizes or "hey thanks" for waiting an hour plus to give your business.

  • Sam G.

I know this is a 'gay bar' but honestly, I dont think you'd know it unless you were told it. Or unless seeing two women or two men holding hands for you is a shocker. For better or for worse, there is a lot of hetero here and a lot of groups of mixed people just hanging out. The patio is my favorite summer hang out place and makes me want to give Aut four stars - it has christmas lights and a great ambiance. When people are coming in from out of town, this is where we go so they don't think I live in the isolated frat-boy college town that I do. The scale of the surrounding businesses around the courtyard makes it feel intimate and cozy... and like you're in a nook of a big city without the noise. But there are things that knock Aut down to three stars: The music (once in a blue moon it's wonderful jazz or trip hoppish stuff, but more often than not '90s pop like backstreet boys, mariah carrey, spice girls or cheesy 'techno'). The service, as mentioned, can be slow - not only that but for the life of me I can't build any kind of repertoire with the servers - I joke, I try and strike up conversation, and there's just no feeling of connection that you can get at other places. In my experience they seem to be withdrawn and disinterested - but maybe (hopefully) others have had more positive experiences. The kitchen is open until 1am (don't remember if this is only on weekends) which makes it a good place to go after a movie or other night time adventure for food. Unfortunately the food ends up being fairly average. Their burger is fairly tasty but their salads and veggie stuff is not great. I wouldn't come here for a full-blown meal as I've been left feeling 'meh' after every one I've had. And they are darn pricey for what they are. But their appetizers (especially chips, salsa, and guac - or hummus) are great. Brunch is busy busy. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended. Bloody Marys are tasty and light on the tomato juice (less viscous). Their bourbon street eggs (a take on eggs benny) are tasty but the poached eggs don't ooze. The Huevos Con Chorizo are basically just chorizo and barely any egg... though they are surprisingly delicious on pancakes (which are very, very sweet). Scallop fritta is good. The chorizo chili omelet was actually a lot less chili-heavy than I thought which is muy bueno. The food is cheap so I can't complain too much. But I think were it not for the patio and the fact that it is pleasantly removed from drunk college students, I wouldn't be coming here as often as I do. None the less, I feel like Ann Arbor would be impoverished without it.

went there for brunch this past Sunday. the food was alright but the service was pretty bad. we waited 45 minutes for our food, even though we had reservations. this is a situation that would have been perfect for management to send us a free appetizer or drinks. I had the chilaquiles which were pretty good. I could barely taste the chorizo that I asked them to add on though.

Food was fairly decent price. Paid less than $10 for a burger and fries, and they remembered some of the alterations I made to the order. It was also ready freakishly fast, and delicious. Drinks are cheap. I paid $3 for a Miller, my friend paid $5-ish for a Long Island Iced Tea (and it was strong). Wait staff were very attentive.

I live in Toledo, but go to ann arbor to shop at least once a month since we don't have a Trader Joe, Whole Foods or World Market. I try to come to a2 on a Sunday late morning to have brunch or for a Saturday early dinner and then walk a block to Zimmerman's. Martin the owner is always very friendly, as is the entire staff. Sunday brunch is awesome. I love the patio in the summer and the owners also own a LGBT bookstore next door that I like to visit. There is a parking lot in front of the building, but a lot of times it is full (and it also pay parking during certain hours, but free on Sunday and Saturday after I believe 6). But there is plenty of parking elsewhere only a block away. This is my favorite place in the area for Sunday brunch. Lots of choices, and they have some unique Mexican brunch dishes. Their raisin toast is a good bread choice and I believe it comes from Zimmerman. I like their chicken salad wrap and their fries are hand cut. They have some good soup choices the change and their Gazpacho is really good. I also like their Spaghetti Carbonara when they have that as a special. The adult beverages are really good and they have a good selection of shots to chose from. They use to have a leather night one Friday a month and I wish they would bring that back.

Went here today for the first time and it was absolutely delicious. Got this amazing french toast that was like challah with cinnamon goo and strawberries and omg it was absolute heaven. Large portion sizes and fair prices. In case anyone was wondering about the gay bar thing, I've only been there for brunch, but there were all types of people there--families, friends, coworkers, etc--so if even if gay bars aren't your scene, don't hesitate to go to brunch here. One note of caution: this is not a good place to go (for weekend brunch at least) if you are in a hurry. It would be tough to do in less than an hour and a half. It seemed the wait was due to the small (though incredibly awesome) staff size, rather than just the restaurant's small capacity. We only had to wait about 5-10 minutes to sit down, but the subsequent wait times were quite a bit longer (about 15 minutes until we placed our food order, another 25-30 until we received our DELICIOUS meals, 10 minutes to get our check after we asked for it, etc.) HOWEVER, the waitress was incredibly nice and kept apologizing for the wait. We were in no hurry, so enjoyed having the time to talk and people-watch at our outdoor table (right across from the farmers market!)

The Aut Bar has a very nice patio to sit out at on a summer night, which was the main reason we visited. Unfortunately the bartender was new on the night we stopped in because one of our drinks was not made correctly. Service was also ridiculously slow - probably 20 minutes or more to receive our drinks after ordering! On the plus side, the patio was awesome and nice away from the crowds of Main Street.

Lost in a new town that I have never been I like to find new and local places to eat. We spent the day walking the farmers market as well as the downtown section of Ann Arbor, MI. I saw quite of few big name places to eat as well as some small local ones in the downtown area by the collage campus. Deciding on which place to eat it seemed way to busy and crowded for me. I think it was the first or 2nd weekend that the students were back in town. I decided to look around for a place outside of the main attraction area and that's when I found this little place with big flavor. We sat in the outside patio area which was very relaxing and quiet. Our server Keith took the time to explain the menu along with some of the restaurant history. This place has a good variety of items to choose from and was very difficult for me to go with a lunch item when the breakfast/brunch items sounded so good. There will be a next time and I will do the breakfast. We ate, drank and were very merry. Thank you smart phone app for finding this place.

The girlfriend and I wanted to get some brunch and some Bloody Marys on this beautiful Sunday morning. So after checking Yelp I settled on Aut Bar. After arriving we waited about 10 minutes before being seated outside on the patio. During our wait we were offered cocktails and were able to start enjoying them before we were seated. The Bloody Mary was fantastic and just the right amount of spicy for me (I like 'em spicy!). Menu was vast and had lots of great sounding breakfast/brunch options. Food came out quickly even though our waiter seemed less than enthused with his job. Had to ask for water and refills were very hard to come by. Overall a ver good experience. Food was fantastic and against my better judgement I finished it all. It was too good not to! A nice patio area, good drinks and great brunch! A very good start to a nice summer Sunday!

I had the omelet with the chorizo chili and guacamole on the inside, which was very good. The chilaquiles were okay. Wonderful patio for the nice weather! Very enjoyable. However, the service was incredibly slow.

Came for brunch and had a nice meal on the patio. My chilaquiles were just so so. Next time, I'll just come for the brunch drinks. Mmmmmmm day drinking.

Trekked to The Aut bar for another drink before heading home, celebrating a friend's birthday. The patio area was so cute! Well shaded and spacious. It's a popular place and had to settle for a table inside. Creeky hardwood floors gives this tiny place a lot of character. Though I am sure there was much more to this place than what I saw, it was cozy and cute. The staff was friendly and attentive. The drinks are moderately priced for a bar in Ann Arbor. We munched on Sweet Potato chips which were interesting and tasty. It was a pleasant visit.

Came here for brunch awhile back and fell in love! The service was a tad slow but well worth the wait. I ordered the Huevous rancheros with chorizo and forgot to add the chorizo, however did eventually bring me a side of it. The tortilla shell was crispy and the whole dish was absolutely flavorful. I can't wait to go back there...and I would definitely recommend making reservations.

Solid as far as food goes. It also has a nice quiet courtyard outdoor seating area. Downsides are it can be cramped at times inside and service is often slow.

Everythings already been said. It's great. Service is a little slow. Still incredible. Only recommendation: make a reservation, and you won't have to wait for Sunday Brunch.

Great Sunday brunch! I'm disappointed that I didn't know about this spot while I lived in Ann Arbor. The menu includes all of your typical breakfast fare, but there are also lots of creative items and specials. We very much appreciated the $4 large french press pot of coffee! All in all you're going to get great creative food with generous portions at a reasonable price. Mind the hours though, you can't get an early breakfast here.

I went here and had the Huevos Rancheros for Easter Sunday Brunch and a Grapefruit Mimosa. I enjoyed the food. The beans were tasty and the rice was not as salty as other versions I have had. The mimosa seemed a tad weak but the flavor was nice. It can be a very tight fit in this place but it was also very comforting because of the relaxed atmosphere. Great place for a first date!!!!

My boyfriend, a U of M grad, recommended Aut Bar as a fun spot for a date. Right he was! We went there last Friday for dinner and drinks. The dining area was mostly empty. A server by the bar seated us at a cozy table across from the bar. Friday is 'bistro' night, when the servers wear neckties and there's a special bistro menu. The specials looked good, but we ordered from the regular menu instead. We got there just after happy hour, but they let us grab some free nachos from the nacho bar, which they were about to clear away. I started with an old fashioned (made with Maker's Mark) and ordered the tempeh pesto melt. The drink was great, just a little sweet thanks to the orange garnish and maraschino cherry. The sandwich was also great. The tempeh patty was tender and flavorful, almost meaty, a nice surprise. The pesto and cheese added even more flavor and helped hold the sandwich together. I'd never had tempeh before, so I hope all tempeh is as good as Aut's. The sandwich comes with fries, which were delicious and crispy except for a few soggy outliers. For dessert, we shared a slice of tiramisu. Pretty standard stuff. After dessert, I decided to have another drink, a melon ball, which was very sweet. I should've had another old fashioned instead. Our server had already brought our check, but she added on the extra drink with nary a complaint. In retrospect, service was friendly and gracious throughout the evening. We never felt rushed, and because the tables were never all occupied, we didn't feel bad lingering over dessert and the second round of drinks. If you're looking for a nice date spot in Ann Arbor, check out Aut Bar!

/'aüt/ Bar is one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor and after dinner last night I realized I hadn't yet reviewed it. Unlike most fans, I really don't like the brunch but having said that: I've only been once so I need to try it out again. Kris and I come here for dinner once in a while but lately that once in a while is more frequent than ever before. Why? Because /'aüt/ Bar is consistently good. You never have to worry. The menu is small but diverse and is incredibly veg friendly. Specials are always available and awesome. Ingredients are fresh, special orders are accommodated and the staff is warm and engaging. A few months ago they hosted an island themed night. One of the specials was a kick ass curried vegetable dinner. A few weeks ago they had a similar dish prepared with scallops. I'm vegetarian and deathly allergic to fish so I had to go through my battery of questions to figure out whether ordering it sans scallops would be safe. Our waiter was awesome and after checking was super concerned about the price - he didn't want me to pay full price since the scallop-free version should be less expensive. He and the chef created a version for me and knocked down the price. Totally unnecessary but so appreciated. Besides dinner, there's a bar upstairs with a great juke box, pool tables and a great crowd. Last night I had the California burger and it was delish. No bacon, and tempeh instead of cow. It had cheddar, avocado, dark green lettuce, red onion and a Dijon mustard sauce along with sweet potato chips and black bean corn relish. So good! I strongly recommend /'aüt/ Bar - it's awesome!

I don't know about Aut Bar. I'm giving it 3 stars as I've had a passable time when I've gone there for brunch or drinks, but 'passable' is damning with faint praise. Brunch is fine. Sometimes you're seated right away. Sometimes you wait for 45 minutes in an unmoving line while a guy takes up a patio table drinking water with his dog. Sometimes you're not acknowledged at all. Sometimes your order is taken right away, but you never get more water, and by the time your drinks arrive, you've forgotten that you even ordered drinks. Sometimes your food will be good, and sometimes the tortillas will be flavorless, the beans a little crusty, and the chilaquiles in need of hot sauce even if you don't like it spicy. The drinks are fine. I've only been to the bar once, and it was on the occasion of a very sad break up which also happened to be Oscar weekend, so the whole scene was just wildly inappropriate for any kind of serious conversation. There are better bars in Ann Arbor - say, across the courtyard at the Bar at Braun Court. There are also better places for brunch in Ann Arbor - say, across the courtyard at The Espresso Bar. I see no need to go to Aut again.

I've been going to Aut Bar for several years now and I love this place! Tuesdays are the best nights with KJ Leslie hosting karaoke and Bartenders Sam, Susie & Terry taking care of everyone! I usually have dinner there every week, and I haven't had anything that I didn't like! Keep up the good work, Aut Bar, muah!

You AUTTA get to the Aut Bar! (Zing!) They've got a lovely patio for the warmer days (although as it begins to cool down they've got some fire pits going. Love!) which is the perfect place to sip their excellent mimosas over a leisurely brunch. They have the standard brunch faire--eggs dishes, some Mexican options, omelets, french toast, sandwiches, etc. All tasty and fresh. I like that you can get the omelets with egg whites, a healthier option should you be watching what you eat. If you're NOT counting calories the Elvis french toast is particularly obscene. Peanut butter and bananas! Oye! The only complaint (which isn't even really that big a deal) is that the service can be a little slow. Although they're usually packed and super busy which is why I cut the servers a little slack. As long as my glass if full and my food comes to me warm I don't stress too much. I can't think of many things better than a delicious omelet or french toast, a mimosa and great conversation with friends all by the fire pit on the patio on a cool fall day.

Aut Bar is one of my favorite happy hour haunts, especially in the summer when the patio is available. Between the drink specials and the always fabulous service (pun intended!), Aut Bar is a comfortable location to catch up with the girls over a few stiff ones. The food, while not great, is reliably good and priced right. Aut Bar frequently offers fun special cocktails, which means anyone who likes unusual or fruity drinks is in for a treat.

This place could be 4 stars, but the staff needs some work on their etiquette. I've had several of their items on the menu and they've just been alright.. And it changes daily. The regular menu has several items that they always serve. And I suppose I've only scarfed it down like an animal because of the beverages already in me. Seriously nothing special. Something is lacking. Maybe seasoning? Drinks can be strong depending on who the bartender is. However, with all that said....I still find it to be scary and a very cold experience dealing with them. Erin was the best ever of their staff, but alas she's no longer there. Lots of (old) art work to gawk at, and I suppose even some of the clientele. I swear though, I always get anxiety walking into this place not knowing what level of service I'm going to get. They need to be retrained in customer service. Sorry.

I walked over here the first time I went to the Ann Arbor Farmer's Market when I first moved to Michigan from San Francisco. I ate in the outdoor courtyard, which was shady and pretty. The service was a tiny bit slow because it was a gorgeous weekend day and the place was packed, but the wait staff made up for it by being extremely funny and nice. I haven't had a bad meal or a bad wait person here yet, and I've been back dozens of times -- pretty much every time I go to the Farmer's Market. It's also nice for this San Francisco queer girl, because it feels like home! And there is an LGBT bookstore next door, too. Don't get me wrong; it's just a couple of cuts above diner food. But it's all delicious and the prices are decent, and what can I say? Love it.

After years of *intending* to go to the Aut Bar for brunch, we finally made it last weekend. It was delicious! I had Huevos Estofados, and every time I found another over-easy egg buried under my beans & cheese, it was like finding a little golden treasure (that provided tasty sauce to the rest of my breakfast). Other meals at the table were the breakfast burrito (consumed in record time, and apparently delicious), and Huevos Motulenos - also very good. The thing that pushed it to five stars was the Bloody Mary. I saw one go by, and was reminded of how much I like them, and asked for one. I requested it not be too spicy, because I am a wimp. After a couple of minutes, the bartender came over, asked me some questions, and voila! I had a wonderful, just spicy enough Bloody Mary sitting in front of me. It was like magic. A big glass of tomatoey magic.

Could not believe that we received a 4 course meal for $30.00. The steak was a bit overcooked but tasty and the potatoes were delicious. Ended the meal with Red Velvet Cake. Our server was overwhelmed...we got there at 8pm and ended the meal by 10:45. Jackie the server was nice but sooooo slow.

Service is provided at a snail's pace- so expect that going in. SLOWEST SERVICE in. the. WORLD. Youll get the most bang for your buck if you hit up the Sunday brunch. Set aside 4 hours and go for it because you will have a food orgasm. Saturday brunch tho- is just ok. Also!! Sitting on the patio is delightful in nice weather. It's really a cute little location.

I went with friends in the evening when I couldn't eat or drink. The atmosphere was really nice. After I met the owner in front at a nice fire pit. We had a great discussion. I really hope to go back when I can try the Mexican food!

This place has literally the worst service I have ever experienced. It took us 25 minutes to be seated, even though there were six open tables out of the total of ten tables in the restaurant. After we were finally seated, we had to wait twenty minutes to talk to a server, and then another twenty minutes to get our drinks. The food was nothing to write home about. I would never go back to this place.

You know, usually when a place serves the gay community, things can get a bit dicey for us straight folks. I've been called a breeder in Provincetown... Actually it was kinda funny. :) however, I've got to say that I just love what the owners have done with the Aut Bar. Talk about practicing what you preach! (talkin' tolerance here, folks) That aside, this place is one of my fav b-fast spots in town! Good food, fun specials, and Sunday brunch on the patio... that's just a little slice of heaven.

Some terrific Southwest brunch options (I'm especially partial to the chilaquiles, which are vegetarian!). Maybe the best al fresco eating experience in Ann Arbor. The walls are covered in Mapplethorpes. Which is awesome.

This must be listened to while reading the following review: youtube.com/watch?v=HTN6… I can't believe it took my all the way until my third (and last, sniffle) year of being in A2 to make it here for food! And people say there isn't any good Mexican food in ann arbor. They clearly never thought to check out the aut bar, and I partially can't blame them. Then again, with all of these stellar reviews, they probably are to blame. We went for dinner during the week of Cinco de Mayo, so they had a lot of great specials in addition to what looked like an already stacked menu. I got the Pollo en Mole (a special), which came with rice, beans and tortillas. The chicken was amazingly tender and juicy, still on the bone, and the mole sauce was just impeccable. I don't always love mole, but I figured I'd give it a try here, and I had no regrets. My lovely other half got chicken enchiladas, another dish I'm never gaga over, but I tried them and oh was it a bad romance. I think their trick, on top of having quality ingredients that just taste good, was to put feta in the enchiladas, something I wouldn't have thought to do but would now never imagine not doing. Mmm. A couple of negative, or at least not-as-positive notes: our friends split an order of fajitas, which, normally would work because restaurants generally serve a large enough order of fajitas to feed a small family, but here they really do just give you one serving. Which is fine, of course, but the price is a little high. Another slight was that the order of quac, salsa and chips was very small, and even getting more chips to finish off the other stuff cost us extra mulah. They should just have free chips and salsa, of course. It would also make a great snack to drink with. Despite those problems, I still confidently give aut bar the whole 5 stars, as they have by far the best Mexican food I've tried so far in A2. Oh, and don't hurt yourself by missing out on the Sangria, it is to die for, and way better than that plain old Dominick's sangria everyone raves about. Peace aut.

As a gay bar, aut is fairly straight-forward: low-key atmosphere, enjoyable patio seating, wide variety of music, and a great brunch. Most importantly, though, aut offers good stiff drinks at cheap prices. Sometimes when I want to meet with friends and grab drink, aut is great option when you're not looking for anything fancy.

Saturday brunch at Aut Bar broke my heart last weekend. I had been salivating over the prospect of their insanely delicious sweet potatoes with Parmesan and parsley, only to find out that the menu offered on Saturdays is sadly truncated. I made do with the (excellent) chilaquiles. Life is so hard. I go to Aut Bar because the lovely atmosphere gives me enough patience to accept service that ranges from neglectful to indifferent. If you're intolerant of slow service or willing to sacrifice taste for speed, head elsewhere.

Someone asked me recently how aut bar was, and I'll stand by this statement: aut bar has amazing desserts. Really. They do. I go here for lunch and drinks as well, but I cannot get over how much I love the dessert menu. One star off for the occasional server insensitivity, but that's no big deal really. The food & atmosphere makes up for it. That being said, the bartenders are awesome and I haven't yet found a drink they can't make.

No matter what your preference, you will feel at home here. This narrow nook-n-cranny is crammed with hilarious and kind staff, books in the walls, and a Well Stocked Bar. The brunch is FABULOUS. Lots of Mexican menu items not found anywhere else in town! The refried beans are made from frijoles negros--MY FAVE. Things tend to get dicey during the brunch hours. We're talking tiny morsels of crispy-moist potato goodness, and there are many different varieties including sweet potato with parmesan. YUM. Like many of the favored brunch haunts in the Deuce, this place carries a hefty wait during prime hours, but it's worth it. Especially if you can score a patio table during a spate of awesomely agreeable Michigan weather.

Nice drinks, good service, excellent outdoor patio. Spent a brief hour here ordering bottles of beer (nothing on tap), and mojitos, while lounging in their outdoor patio. It was really a small luxury on a hot day, as the patio is shawled in a flush set of maple trees, giving ample shade. Service was superb. The jams on the outdoor radio, tending toward oldies, was excellent - everyone at my table were bobbing heads and feet. They have Anchor Steam, Bell's, and Stella on hand, among others. The mojito was stiff (which I like) but a little too sweet and not enough mint. A small complaint though, since an icy drink outside on a hot day while bobbing to oldies goes down rather nicely. I don't get the faux-Euro name (or is it a pronunciation guide?)... but this patio-bar is a nice place to be while the season's good for it.

I really want to love Aut Bar and I believe I just may once I actually have brunch here (which I hear is awesome) or some other sort of meal. For now, I can only base my review on a handful of visits where I've mostly drank mojitos--which are absolutely delicious and the best I've found in Ann Arbor so far. I love their patio at night--the colored lights are so pretty and I like how roomy it feels out there. Literally surrounded by businesses in residential-looking houses, it feels like you're hanging out in someone's really hip urban yard. Unfortunately, I was prompted to finally write a review due to may fairly awful experience last night. Apparently, it was karaoke night inside, so--as our extremely harried and brusque server informed us--the bar was very backed up and two servers were running around with their heads down and--I'm sure--teeth clenched. Not a great environment to sit in. Also, the patio was kind of busy, but nothing crazy by any means. Anyway, we got there and found a seat. Out server threw a couple menus down and literally grunted at us--no greeting whatsoever. We sat there for probably 15 or 20 minutes with both servers obviously avoiding eye contact with us when they were outside at all. I finally had to say, "Hey! Um, could we order drinks?" to the server that wasn't originally "ours". He was much more pleasant, but--again--obviously frazzled to the max. Our original server finally came up to take our order and when we informed her that we had already ordered she seemed annoyed. She did, however, bring our drinks and took fairly better care of us the rest of the night. She eventually explained that they were really busy inside, but at that point we were over it and didn't care. Also, it's a major service faux pas to ever make that excuse to your table. Anyway, I'll definitely go back as this was my first bad experience--but the recent unpleasantness was uncomfortable and lame enough to dock a star for now!

Ehhhhh. I don't have as much love for this place as other people apparently do. The mixed drinks, mojito, and sangria were adequate but a bit watery. The service is often slow. And even though the food is secondary, the non-brunch menu at least is truly mediocre and as overpriced. What it has that other places don't is the atmosphere. The outdoor seating is particularly nice on a good day. But hey, the brunch is absolutely delicious, so maybe that makes up for it. I very much enjoy the egg burrito and all the other sinful things offered. If only the line weren't so long, I'd go more often! P.S. Comic Sans on the daily specials menu?! Come on!

I got a tray of mimosas and bloody marys spilled on my head. The drinks were comped but I still paid $10 for a dry sub-par omelet. When my date came back from running home to grab me a dry shirt, our waiter asked if he could stick the plate in the microwave for him. I know it wasn't just my bad day, but probably the waiter's too, but I was still shocked at service, treatment and how not-very-good the food was. Drinks get spilled everyday, but I'm just saying I've never had A TRAY of drinks spilled on me anywhere else... and places where I've been spilled on usually have a more put-together response to make up for it. Save your money (and your clothes) and go somewhere else when you want brunch.

Ever since my gay buddy moved away, I've had no one take me out for a gay night on the town, but I still frequent Aut Bar for its brunch. Here's why: Aut Bar has a spectacular brunch on Sundays and its best feature is: it's cheap! My wife and I can usually go there for under $20, unless one of us orders an alcohol beverage. Drinking on Sunday rocks! Aut Bar serves Mexican-like brunch items like huevos rancheros and it's quite good. Typically, the items are fresh-tasting and the entree sizes are generous. If this review were just about the food, Aut Bar would get a five out of five. Why oh why did I give it three? (Hold breath for diatribe.) Never mind the gay photographic art on the walls. You know, that doesn't bother me because I can appreciate the naked male, even when coupled with another naked male in an erotic pose. What I can't handle is the extremely inconsistent service. One day I go and the service is fine, the food comes out right away, and no hitches at all. Other times I go, I wait a century for my food (around 40 minutes) and the waiter seems like he's left his brain at home. Here's what I've noticed: During the summer, when the patio is open, the kitchen gets frightfully behind. The service screwups seem more frequent in the summer than they do in the winter. The problem is that I like to sit outside and bask in the rare, Michigan sun on a nice sunny Sunday. What I don't like is how I'm usually subjected to a bout of starvation while I drool and pant while other people get their food. So, I do recommend this place with that fair warning in place. The huevos are excellent, but my favorite is the breakfast burrito with chorizo, peas, and onions. Delicious!

I had a wonderful brunch here! Only downside: a long wait, understaffed, and a bit on the slow side. I know it was their first patio day though- so hopefully a little better usually. If I went back, it would definitely have a shot at five stars. I had a pear mimosa, and a peach mimosa. Both were wonderful. The pear had an interesting texture, and the peach was just delicious. I also had the Mediterranean omelet, with feta cheese, tomatoes, and blackbeans. My friend's chorizio and eggs was good too, as was his spanish coffee. I think this place means I'll be brunching every Sunday in the future, if at all possible.

Aut bar always jumps to mind whenever I think of brunch in Ann Arbor - especially for the southwest/Mex themed foods. I especially love the idea of blackbeans, rice and tortillas with my breakfast foods - and legit options and variety - not just the same old breakfast burrito with some cheap salsa slapped on. The servers are all very kind and accommodating. The mimosas are cheap and plentiful. Perfect for a late Sunday brunch and even better in the summer when the patio's open for dining.

This is a second review of the Aut Bar. I've lived in Ann Arbor couple years now, and I felt obligated to change my original review, considering I frequent the Aut Bar regularly, particularly for their Friday night happy hour. It's without a doubt my favorite, or at least my go-to, happy hour in town. $3 cosmos (among other things, but it's all I get at their happy hour) are strong. Free nacho bar (which is mediocre, but free and helps mediate the soaking in of the alcohol from the strong cosmos) so who cares, right? Starts at 4pm and is usually pretty empty then so I can meet up with friends and know we'll be able to catch up and actually be able to talk and hear each other. Sometimes I'm all for the traditional crazy pub-after-work happy hour atmosphere, but Aut Bar is where I go to get my buzz on and gab with the girls. (Then I can always stumble across the courtyard to Braun Ct. For a nice, sophisticated cocktail). Service is always good at this time, and other times I've come here--different than my previous review which leads me to believe it was a fluke. Also just a great clientele frequents this establishment which is generally pretty chill--until the party gets going upstairs...

I've been here twice. Once for brunch and once for 'nightlife.' The Sunday brunch is super affordable and really tasty. Best of all, you come out stuffed and satisfied --- with leaving food on your plate! I loved the semi-bitchy staff as well. I remember the bartender trying to get sarcastic with me, but he made me laugh. So I dug that. As far as nightlife - This is the only 100% of the time gay bar in A2. That makes me sad. Maybe it was an off night, but the average age was 40 it felt like. Not that that's a bad thing, but for being a younger temporary transplant, I was a bit disappointed. I have to go to Detroit, the once-a-week gay night at Necto in A2, or Royal Oak.

I have had only WONDERFUL experiences at The Aut Bar. This is a consistently fantastic place to eat and get drinks. The clientele is fun and the exterior patio provides the very best atmosphere in town. The food --- WOW! I am a HUGE fan of their pesto chicken pasta dish. Even the most expensive restaurants Downtown A2 don't have anything on the brunch menu at The Aut Bar.

One of the best spots for brunch in town, hands down! Great food, and often brunch music includes a little Nina Simone or the like. Nice. In spring and summer, the outdoor seating is lovely, though the atmosphere indoors is just fine. My favorites include the Boulder Scramble and chilaquiles. They have all sorts of variations on mimosas, too, if you are in need of a bit of the hair of the dog, recovering after a particularly indulgent Saturday night. I do find it a little odd that they only do brunch on Sunday, not Saturday, but really, that's not much of a complaint, is it? The food is solid at other times of the day too, but brunch is where the Aut Bar really shines.

The Aut Bar can really hit the spot depending on what you are looking for and what time of day it is. 1.) This is an excellent brunch spot. They have a special brunch menu on the weekend with yummy specials. Top this off with their French press coffee or a mimosa and you will not be disappointed. They have eggs Bennedict and Huevos Rancheros. They have corned beef hash, which is on the salty side. Lots of yumminess to choose from. 2.) They offer tasty lunches and dinners, all the way down to their dessert. Their chocolate cake is something that invades my dreams. They use Knight's meat in their juicy, delicious burgers. They have a salmon salad that is large and tasty with capers on it. In the spring and summer, it is a big treat to sit outside and gormandize. 3.) They're also a bar, so at night, just go upstairs and smoke to your hearts content. Maybe play a game of pool, because yes, there is pool upstairs. They don't mess around with their drinks, either. 4.) The photography indoors is hot. Check it out.

Yummy breakfast food! Try the corned beef hash, it is a GIANT plate that won't disappoint. The southwest potatoes are also really good. I also had the best tomato-bacon soup EVER here! UPDATE: I got a burrito from here and it was AMAZING! So filling, flavorful, YUM!!! You don't get the beans and rice though which is a bummer.

Aut Bar is very friendly. The service is great and I always see families there. Many of my straight friends enjoy the atmosphere and food. The brunch is VERY delicious and free pool from 4-6 on Wednesday's is great. I only wish they had better ventilation or no smoking. It gets heavy with smoke upstairs by 6pm and I don't want to be in there. Otherwise, no complaints. Great friendly bar/restaurant with a diverse clientele. They also support a lot of local farms and businesses.

Give a Sh/Aut to the Aut Bar of Ann Arbor for the Saturday caberet nights where queer ladies (and gents) from all over gather to celebrate the vocals and tunes of musicians near and far. Come for the scenery, come for the music, come for the tasty vegan and carnivorous treats. Don't forget to stop by any night to create some heat with a loved one around the fire pit located in the center courtyard. It's so nice to have a safe, queer refuge to sneak away too in the middle of the city! Sunday brunch is also a great way to end the week! Kudos to their Mexican chef for his killer Chilaquiles!! (photo: hubpages.com/hub/Chilaqu… ). After noshin' on brunch, stop by Common Language LGBT bookstore next door. Lot parking is free and metered street parking nearby. Prices are moderate. Only con: beware of the smelly bathroom downstairs!

The Aut bar has great food and a wonderful atmosphere. I went here with friends and ordered an aut burger, sweet potato fries, and key lime pie. All super yummy. However our server was rude, so I took it down one star :(.

Aut Bar is a great place to have brunch on Sundays or dinner during the week. It is a traditionally gay restaurant and bar, but everyone is welcome. The staff is friendly and usually attentive. The menu has a slant towards Mexican, which is is perfect for me because I'd eat Mexican food every day if I could. For brunch, my favorite dish is the Sonora Omelet. It is filled with spiced, shredded chicken, cheese, sour cream and guacamole, topped with salsa. It is served with beans, rice, and flour tortillas. The flavors are spot on - the salsa is not too spicy, the refried beans a good texture and are flavorful (personally, I think the beans are what make or break Mexcian food). It is a delicious way to start a Sunday. For dinner Aut Bar has many great items. They have a burrito which I really enjoy - again, with great Mexican flavors and just the right amount of spice. They also have some really good sandwiches and even a lasagna which I've enjoyed. If you are looking for some great food in a gay-friendly atmosphere and a really good price, then Aut Bar is the place for you.

The Aut Bar is a great place for food and conversation, whether you're gay or straight. The fries and appetizers are good, and the drinks are reasonably priced. I love sitting out on the shady patio with some friends, drinking a beer. It's great fun for people-watching. I didn't realize until I looked at their website that they offer brunch on Sundays. I may have to check that out some time.

Aut Bar might as well be two separate establishments. During the day, it's a decent enough restaurant with fairly standard fare. The Sunday brunch is exceptional and very affordable. (I especially love the home fries.) Remember, you can't drink until noon on Sundays in Michigan, so if you need some hair of the dog, hold off until then. In the evenings, Aut Bar becomes more of, well, a bar. It's a nice place to meet a decent variety of people, and it's the only game in town if you want to go to a gay BAR, not club. The bartenders are nice, and if you tip well, the drinks are strong. It can get crowded and smoky, but it generally doesn't get out of hand. Overall, it's a fun way to pass a night.

This is a great place to hang out and have a meal. Little do many people know that the food is excellent here! Great burgers and fries. I used to come here with my friend all the time, so sad he moved to NYC. I miss him, he introduced me to Aut Bar. We had so much from having a drink, playing pool, dancing, and talking to people. I like the crowd vibe here. It sort of feels like you have departed Ann Arbor. Yes, its a gay bar straight guys. So what, if you don't like getting hit on then just say no as anywhere else.

Gay or straight, the aut bar wins for a number of reasons, but all four stars come from its location and atmosphere. First, it's one of the only places in Ann Arbor where you can drink outside in the summer in a comfortable environment that doesn't feel like a frat party (I'm looking at you, Dominick's.) On top of this, it's prices are not inflated like some aforementioned outdoor drinking establishments. It's fairly priced and the wait staff is always pleasant and mostly on the ball. That said, I've eaten here twice and really didn't enjoy the food either time. The last time I was there, no one in my party of 4 enjoyed their meal. I've heard their brunch is good, but the omelette I had was really heavy, no fluff and the salsa on top obviously came right from a jar. Not exactly an exquisite brunch. The burger was equally disappointing as it was small and overcooked, but the bun was quite good. I won't be eating here again anytime soon, but the patio will keep me coming back until Fall.

Aut bar is friendly, laid back, and totally comfortable...much like Ann Arbor in general. We stopped in for an afternoon beer so it was pretty quiet, but I could see this place getting pretty congested pretty quick on a busy night as there is not a lot of room to move around and a significant portion of the floorspace upstairs is taken up by a pool table. Definite plus that they had some local beers in addition to the usual light beer list at most gay bars. I was able to try a hoppy delicious IPA that was brewed two blocks away...yum!

I have had nothing but good times here. People are always friendly and sociable, atmosphere is comfortable and clean, drinks and food are good and reasonably priced... On nice days (and nights), the patio is among my favorite spots in Ann Arbor. Definitely recommend both the brunch and late-night.

Upstairs: gay bar Downstairs: restaurant Aut is the neighborhood gay bar as well as the only devoted gar bar in Ann Arbor (Necto may dabble with men on Fridays, but is still pretty hetero). It's fun with a very mixed crowd and can get crowded pretty easily. There is a pool table as well as 2 TVs that can show things like Real Sex on HBO. The big disappointment here was that they didn't know what a Muff Diver is. Any birthday boy/girl knows that drink. They sorta made up for that by serving Blow Job shots with a condom. Clever. The restaurant has a very good brunch, but can get crowded pretty quickly. They have more seating when it's nice outside and they set up some tables outside.

It's funny how the reviews here seem to be split between "excellent service" and "inconsistent service." I gotta go with the latter bunch. The only time I ever have good restaurant service at Aut is if I know the server. Otherwise it's some of the worst service I've had at a restaurant in town. My SO and I went here for his birthday this year, and the service was horrendous even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. The server never asked us if we wanted a second drink, which is good, because we hightailed it out of there to get more affordable drinks elsewhere. I had the tempeh reuben, which makes the soggy reuben at ABC taste like a masterpiece. But I've been coming here off and on for the past decade because I do dig some of the menu items, even if they are overpriced. I usually stick to the heavenly hummus/tempeh wrap for lunch or dinner and the vegetarian scramble for brunch. As for the bar upstairs, the bartenders are always friendly. But I've never understood why they have a pool table that takes up half the space of an already overcrowded bar. Don't go on a Friday or Saturday unless you want to know what it's like to be packed in like sardines who wear too much cologne. This is the only "gay bar" in town, but luckily a town like Ann Arbor doesn't have to have a great gay bar because there's lots of places all over town that are at least a little queer.

The three stars primarily are for it actually being a gay bar in Ann Arbor. Er, THE gay bar in Ann Arbor. It reeks of smoke. I can't wear a sweater that I've worn there without having to wash it- sometimes twice. It has terrible crowds sometimes, and very little room for movement without me crashing into three men who look at me like, what're you doing here honey, it's not ladies' night? And then I'm like, oh I hang out with gay men and um, anyhow... and that's just awkward. Except usually we get drunk and become BFFs, and then they're my new gay friends anyhow. So, back to the review. The drinks are strong, and not super expensive. Brunch is pretty decent here. The bathroom is bit of an ordeal- just one upstairs, unisex, lots and lots of drunk people... you can see where this is going. The music ranges from bad to gay club to bad gay club... But several of the bartenders are awesome. It's not really my favorite place to spend a night out, but I'll do it for my boys, and I've had some fabulous times here. Just... a little less smoke and a little more space might make me a lot happier. I do have a lot of love for it on uncrowded nights. Sometimes they'll have old movies on, like Steel Magnolias. Those nights, I'd give it 4 stars.

Some coworkers took me to Aut Bar on a recent trip to Ann Arbor. I really liked the atmosphere. It seemed friendly, pretty diverse, clean. It seems like this is a pretty cool place to hang out. I'll definitely return to Aut Bar on my next trip in to Ann Arbor.

The food was nothing exciting, the owner was an ass to the staff... The patio is wonderful in the summer, but like, I'm not sure what exactly the owners are thinking when they behave as they do. Not only do I hear absolute HORROR stories from friends who have been employers, but it shows sometimes as well to the clientele (like me). ...I don't smoke, though smell absolutely disgusting after leaving there.. I'd rather have a drink somewhere that won't give me emphysema.

Sitting outside under one of the umbrella tables at the Aut Bar court is next to heaven on a day like today. I always get the best service here as well as great wine. Their wine is inexpensive and good as well as their food. Today's meal brought a chicken salad wrap which was very tasty, quick and modestly priced. We sat for several hours enjoying the food, wine and lovely quietude of their courtyard seating. I always enjoy the inside decor of Aut, but their outdoors is equally cool. Such a fun place to relax.

Aut Bar is the only full-time gay bar in Ann Arbor, though many heterosexuals venture there for Sunday brunch or weekday dinners. Though the service is mind numbingly slow (never plan to eat in less than an hour) the food is good and fairly inexpensive and the drinks well made. The metered lot outside is free after 6 and all day Sunday, making for easy parking. In addition, there is a large patio for outdoor seating in the warmer months, which is the best time to go, if you're looking to avoid bar smoke.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
